Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended all flights between Dhaka and Riyadh for an indefinite period, saying passenger safety comes first while Saudi airports remain under attack.

In a statement on Saturday afternoon, the national flag carrier said the route would stay closed until Riyadh airport authorities issued further instructions. “A decision on resuming flights will be taken after receiving further instructions from Riyadh airport authorities, and passengers will be informed accordingly,” it said.

Flights to Dammam in eastern Saudi Arabia could restart on 21 October, subject to a review of the situation and the necessary approvals.

Services to Jeddah and Madinah are running as usual, and Biman said passengers who need to reach Saudi Arabia urgently can fly through those two airports.

To handle the extra demand, the airline has been using higher-capacity aircraft on the Madinah route and will switch back to its Boeing 787 fleet from 19 October. It is also arranging additional Jeddah flights, though no timetable has been announced.

Biman advised passengers to contact its sales offices for tickets, bookings and travel information.

The suspension follows a wave of Houthi attacks on airports inside Saudi Arabia. The kingdom is a major destination for Bangladeshi migrant workers, and the disruption has forced many travellers to change their plans.
