A group of 174 Bangladeshis returned to Dhaka from Libya on Tuesday, 27 October, through a repatriation effort arranged by the Bangladesh embassy and the International Organization for Migration.

Prothom Alo reported that their Buraq Air flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after 7am. bdnews24 also reported the return of 174 Bangladeshis.

Among the group, 36 had been held at the Tajoura detention centre in Tripoli after being intercepted at sea, according to an embassy statement cited by Prothom Alo. The other returnees had volunteered to leave unsafe conditions in Tripoli.

Prothom Alo reported that 41 members of the group were physically ill. Officials and representatives of the expatriates’ welfare ministry received the returnees at the airport.

The embassy said another 175 Bangladeshis were expected to return from Misrata on Wednesday under the same humanitarian assistance arrangement. That is a planned return, rather than an arrival already completed.
