Government officers and employees will receive four months' pay in the last week of October, including three months of arrears under the new national pay scale, finance ministry officials say.
October salaries are normally paid on 23 or 24 October. The pay fixation process through iBAS++, the government's budget and accounting system, began on 5 October and is due to be completed by 20 October.
The new pay scale took effect on 1 July this year, and the gazette was issued on 19 September. Because the increase applies from July, employees are owed arrears for July, August and September.
In the first phase, employees in grades 10 to 20 will receive 50 percent of the increase in their basic pay, while officials in grades 1 to 9 will receive 40 percent. From January 2027 the shares rise to 75 percent and 70 percent respectively, and the full basic increase takes effect in July 2027.
Other allowances under the new scale will not change until 1 January 2028, when they are revised.
Teachers and staff at MPO-listed institutions, including madrasas and technical schools, will have to wait longer. Their payroll is calculated manually, and implementation could take until November or December. There are about 5.87 lakh MPO teachers and employees, including 4.32 lakh teachers.
Judges and judicial service employees are also on a separate track while a cabinet committee reviews their pay recommendations.
Under the new structure, the minimum basic salary rises from Tk 8,250 to Tk 20,000 and the maximum from Tk 78,000 to Tk 1,56,000. Full implementation is estimated to add about Tk 1,05,580 crore a year to government spending.
