Shuvagata Hom became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score 7,000 runs and take 300 wickets in first-class cricket, reaching the mark on the second day of Mymensingh Division's National Cricket League match against Dhaka Division in Cox's Bazar on Monday.

The 39-year-old began the day on 6,930 first-class runs, with more than 300 wickets already to his name, and needed 70 more runs for the double. He got to 7,000 on his way to 71 before he was dismissed.

Mymensingh resumed on 226 for four but lost Rizan Hossain (44), centurion Mahfizul Islam Robin (116) and Abu Hider Rony inside the first four overs, sliding to 232 for seven. Shuvagata and captain Rakibul Hasan, who made 61, put on 128 for the eighth wicket to carry the side to 387.

Dhaka closed the day on 120 for three, with Mohammad Naim unbeaten on 64, still 267 runs behind. Aminul Islam Biplob took four wickets for 78 for Dhaka and pacer Sumon Khan took three for 54.

Shuvagata made his first-class debut in 2010 and played eight Tests, four one-day internationals and five Twenty20 internationals for Bangladesh between 2011 and 2016. He now plays for Mymensingh Division in the National Cricket League.

His latest landmark puts him in a group of his own in Bangladesh cricket: no other player from the country has combined 7,000 first-class runs with 300 wickets.
