Bangladesh Bank's new youth entrepreneurship programme, Udyog, has drawn 18,444 applications in its first phase, from 64 upazilas across eight districts, the central bank said on 17 October.

Applications were accepted from 16 September to 15 October at branches of scheduled banks in the eight districts, one from each division: Manikganj, Feni, Naogaon, Jhenaidah, Bhola, Habiganj, Rangpur and Netrokona. Netrokona recorded the most, 5,351, followed by Rangpur with 2,745 and Naogaon with 2,456; Feni had the fewest, 1,261, according to preliminary Bangladesh Bank data.

Under Udyog, selected entrepreneurs can receive up to Tk 20 lakh in blended financing, made up of a bank loan of up to Tk 10 lakh and a matching grant of up to Tk 10 lakh, without collateral. Applicants must be Bangladeshi citizens aged 28 or below and permanent residents of the relevant upazila. The scheme covers sectors including agriculture, food processing, light engineering, renewable energy, fisheries, livestock, handicrafts, tourism, services and technology.

Bangladesh Bank issued the programme's guidelines on 13 September. Applications for the remaining 56 districts will open from 1 to 30 November 2026 at scheduled bank branches, with forms available on the central bank's website, its SME portal and the websites of scheduled banks. Bangladesh Bank says the scheme aims to create jobs and support grassroots entrepreneurship.
